The Clarmont ...

The Clarmont

The Clarmont is a restaurant legend in Columbus. Generations of state and local lawmakers have met there to informally caucus. Judges, lawyers, business leaders start arriving at 6 a.m. for the last power breakfast in the city. All this has been going on for 57 years. And, in this day of trends and chain eateries, little has changed for The Clarmont.

Steaks still lead the popularity list, seafood second, and whole lobsters a close third.

The ghosts and culinary influences of past owners, Frank Kondos, Barry Zacks, Bill Bigelow, still hover over today’s owner, Thom Coffman.

Coffman knows never to tangle with a legend.

Chef Dianne Piccinino, now in her 18th year running a high volume kitchen, gets the credit for keeping The Clarmont in tune with a 1940s flavor. It works. Her favorites: Baking pies and cheesecakes.

The Clarmont offers a retro bar setting. For the older set, the barkeeps know how to do a Manhattan, a martini, even a Cuba Libre or a Rob Roy. The Clarmont continues on The Dispatch’s Top 10 fine dining list.
