Enter North Market and be lured to the northeast entrance by wafting aromas of mint, garlic saffron, minced oregano, hot peppers, all competing for attention with a roasting leg of lamb. You are in fork distance of the city’s premier Middle Eastern eatery, Nasir Latif’s Firdous Express.

Express? Everything to go from the 20-plus buffet trays - on any given day, a dozen meat-based dishes plus 10 for vegetarians.

Most popular: Roasted whole leg of lamb, sides of okra, and saffron rice. Vegetarians opt for cous cous or the lentils and rice with caramelized onions.

As for familiar Middle Eastern fare, trays are loaded with kebabs, crispy falafels and gyros. Show cases display varieties of olives, salads and desserts. The favorite salad: Jerusalem salad - (uses no lettuce extenders) all diced tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, parsley, mint leaves, tahini, cloves of garlic, lemon juice.
