Michael's Bistro A testimonial to a respected chef comes when he becomes a full partner with the owner after demonstrating what he can do in the kitchen. David Tetzloff came to Ohio in 1999 as sous chef in the rather new G. Michael’s. What he brought was a culinary degree from the acclaimed Johnson & Wales in Charleston, S.C. He is now partner in G. Michael’s and a companion operation, The Burgundy Room. Coming along were the influences of America’s richest culinary region, the famed – which runs on the rural food axis from Charleston to Savannah, Ga. The region has an abundance of great restaurants with talented and famed chef owners, the star sort. Chef Tetzloff did more than rub shoulders with the finest. When acclaimed chef Louis Osteen of Louis’ Restaurant penned his signature cookbook, Tetzloff was one of the five assistants chosen to work on the project. Tetzloff later became chef de cuisine for noted Slightly Up the Creek, a popular seafood restaurant just outside Charleston. Why Columbus with a promising career in the making in such a culinary hotspot as Charleston? Love. Chef Tetzloff’s then fiancé, now wife Julie, resides in Bexley. He followed. Ohio’s gain. G. Michael’s Bistro is an artsy eatery in a rehabbed building that has been many things in historic German Village, a stable among other uses a hundred years ago.
