From their forays into the most popular cuisine in Columbus,
it appears as though Avery and Gramps approach Italian
fare as a tasting menu.
Avery Venetta, the Grump's Intern...
Prior to signing on as the youngest reviewer in Columbus, Avery
Venetta, 11, spent much of 2008 and 2009 prepping for finals.
She specialized in the world's most popular cuisine, Italian. Of the dozens
of outings with her gramps, 60, she came up with three favorites...here
they are in order of her approval. Gramps and Avery are now making
their way through the better Mexican eateries.
Tony's Italian Ristorante
16 W. Beck St. Columbus, Ohio
Gramps and I had dinner at Tony’s last May with my family; it was my Dad’s birthday. Everything was so clean and nice; I knew that it would be great. I was surprised at how good everything was. I had Escargot there for the first time. The serving had the perfect amount of garlic and was cooked perfectly. You should have seen the other kids in my class at school when I told them that I had snails. The Tony’s Fettuccini was terrific with perfectly cooked shrimp, scallops and crab in a cheesy sauce. The tiramisu (we always get dessert) was so light and melted in my mouth.
I highly recommend Tony’s.

Villa Nova
5545 N. High St. Columbus, Ohio
Gramps and I went to Villa Nova in October, 2008. It was small and very cozy, but my favorite part of the decorations was the copper tea kettles, there were dozens of them on display around the room. I went around and inspected them and found one that my Grandmother brought home from one of her trips to England.
I had their spaghetti with meat sauce, one my favorite Italian dishes. It’s not as good as my Dad’s, but pretty close. It was fresh and the meat flavor really came through. The reason I chose Villa Nova for the best Fettuccini Alfredo was because it was so creamy and very cheesy. There were no clumps in the sauce. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant with the family feel, where most of the customers seem to know each other, laughing and having fun then Villa Nova is the spot. Don’t miss their Tiramisu ether.

Moretti's
5849 Sawmill Rd. Columbus, Ohio
Gramps and I went to Moretti’s a couple times over the years of our Italian dinner adventure. We both love it there and it is close to my home. The staff is very nice, they greeted us cheerfully. It was very neat, dimly lighted with curtains. We shared a very fresh and crispy salad because it’s so big; theirs has some pasta in it which is great. I love the homemade salad dressing and seasoned butter for their bread! The Veal Moretti was good and tender with nicely seasoned breading, with the best pasta in town. The homemade pasta was perfect with it’s creamy sauce. We always bring part of our dinner home for my Mom and Dad. Now that we’re going to Mexican restaurants, Dad says that he likes the Italian leftovers much better. The Moretti chocolate dessert was really good, too. “Magnifico”
