columbuschefs.com Plaza... ![]() David Wolf, Executive Chef The Plaza, Hyatt on Capitol Square The most popular holiday and Sunday brunch in Columbus is served at Hyatt on Capitol Square. And, yes, for 60 good reasons. When the 400-room Hyatt opened in 1984 the Sunday brunches quickly provided a culinary offering that has been a lasting attraction. In the formal setting of The Plaza the spread has been traditional in formality with hot carving stations, omelets, waffles, desserts and a raw bar. The Sunday price of $24.95 has not changed in five years. The Plaza’s quality has never been questioned. Over the years much of the credit goes to David Wolf who was executive chef from 1991 to 1999. Hyatt transferred chef Wolf to the chain’s Hyatt Park in Philadelphia in 1999. He returned to his hometown, Columbus, last year to again take over The Plaza. Little has changed. While overseeing a 24-hour kitchen preparing all meals, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, it is the Sunday buffets that appeal to the Columbus public. Sundays are Wolf’s busy days. On holidays such as Mother’s Day, Easter and Thanksgiving, the buffets draw in excess of 1,000 patrons on a regular basis. Chef Wolf is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Greystone campus, in St. Helena, Ca., and the culinary program at the International School of Confectionery Arts in Maryland.
